This pair of barren tiles (Planetary Empires) were painted in a grey waste theme - lots of different tones of greys, together with some yellow and brown accent colours (and on the rockier one) some darklighting to shade where the Sun might be pointing. I'm particularly pleased with the blending achieved on the left hand tile -- the browns steadily grow in to one another in a very pleasing manner.
I like the darklighting idea, but if you did several tiles this way won't the light source appear to jump around if the tiles are not always aligned the same direction? I really want a reason to need the tile sets, I think they are awesome. I don't play much though, so needless to say I don't do a lot of campaigns. Do you find that you get a lot of use out of yours?
ReplyDeleteHi Inner Geek -- yes you're right about the orientation of the tiles -- they would need to be in the correct position to "make sense" from a physics point of view at least. But maybe the planet orbits a multiple star system? ;)
ReplyDeleteIn terms of use, some high intensity use and then very little for long stretches of time. I've found they can double up for use in other games though (e.g. Settlers of Catan!).
